Maybe a problem with the FX loop jacks. If your issue shows up again, connect Send <-> Return with a normal instrument cable -> if you get output, the jacks need some cleaning. Im most cases it's sufficient to plug the cable in / out several times.

Underpowered? U must be kidding or never played one... the 700 has more than enough power for allmost anything and sounds warmer than the 1001. Personally I think there are more 700s out there..
