First Bass Build : Fretless 5 String

I'm not familiar with inches and you're not familiar with centimeters haha! ;) But I'd prefer to be more comfortable with inches since they are way more used.

First Bass Build : Fretless 5 String

I re-checked and it really is 2,5 cm(or 1'') at the E and C strings. I measured the thickness of my Jazz Bass neck and it is also 1'' so it seems like a standard.

First Bass Build : Fretless 5 String

Ok, so now I'm ready to route the neck pocket and the all the cavities and I must I'm really stressed about this part, so I just want to make sure everything is right. The thickness of the neck plus the thickness of the fretboard is 2,5 cm(yeah I'm not very familiar with inches haha) and the...

First Bass Build : Fretless 5 String

Thanks! I know the shape isn't very conventional with the upper horn and that it won't please everybody, nice to know I'm not the only one who likes it haha!

First Bass Build : Fretless 5 String

Final shape of the outer edges done, I didn't cut the whole shape to make it easier to rout the neck pocket.

Any luthiers in Montréal willing to take an apprentice?

I must say I didn't expect any answer of luthiers begging me to be their apprentice. But there's another thing I'd like to ask, what would be the best way to convince a luthier to be your mentor? I know taking an apprentice takes time and isn't very productive for them, but I am really motivated...

    How to fix warped wood?

Adding a back would be a very good idea! I already plan on adding a black veneer between the alder and the top, but it won't add much thickness though. Anyway, thanks for the help everyone!

    How to fix warped wood?

Damn, I thought it might relieve some of the stress of the blank, so my only hope is the plane it again and hope it'll be thick enough to use?

    How to fix warped wood?

I'll post a photo of the wood later, but I thought about something, if I chamber the body, would it make it easier to straighten with clamps and moisture?

    How to fix warped wood?

Yeah it's a solution i'd like to avoid if possible, the body is already fairly thin and I do have a top to glue on it anyways but it's really thin too so I don't want to remove too much material. Do you have any idea of the thickness it removes depending on the curve?

    How to fix warped wood?

I've had a blank of alder that was laying around in my basement and over time it has cupped, since it's really thick(about 1.5 inches), is there any way to fix the wood? I've tried steaming the wood with an iron and clamping it tight between two flat surfaces but I'm not sure it'll work...If it...

First Bass Build : Fretless 5 String

It's been a long time since I've updated this thead since I've started working way more than before. I received the veneer for the contrast line between the body and the top and here's another mockup with the contour added : I thought I could finally start but I realized just today that the...
