Hmm, so stick the string in the hole down through the middle of the tuning peg, and then wind the string underneath it? Have i been doing it wrong then? I was always shown to wind over the top of it and this stops it from jumping out while tightening.

As im not a luthier, im not really qualified to fully disagree with you, but from an engineers viewpoint, and comparing it to other bridges on the other instruments i own, and have seen (spector bass and steinberger headless guitar for example). They both have bridges that lock the ball in place...

Only by where i point/ use the bass. And only when on single pickup, think it appears on either neck or bridge but ill need to double check. It is very quiet at all other times after shielding.
