I like Fender Flats...what else might I like?

What makes the Rotos most suited to a Precision to you? How would you describe the sound of the Rotos vs Fenders? I've got the 9050M set on my Precision at the moment.

I like Fender Flats...what else might I like?

I forgot to mention I've tried TIs! Unfortunately I'm among those who consider them a bit too floppy and low tension for my heavy-handed attack. How would you compare the Fender flats to both Ernie Ball and Dunlops, in your own words and experience? The Dunlops sure are expensive compared to...

I like Fender Flats...what else might I like?

Love La Bellas for the old-school thing, but that's not the sound I'm after. Love DR Legend flats except the E string has that vintage "clunk" factor, which again isn't what I'm going for. Wanted to love D'Addario Chromes but I found the texture to them tacky/sticky, not a pleasure to play...

    SOLD B.C. Rich Mockingbird BC

Thanks! Are the controls VVT / 3-way switch / mini toggle for boost? Is it just a general output boost, or does it seem to accentuate certain frequencies?

Is there a repair in the top near the controls or is that just the wood grain? Gorgeous bass

Has Fender (or anyone) ever made a 51 Single Coil P/J Bass?

Man why are Nordstrands product descriptions such illegible nonsense?! o_O

Has Fender (or anyone) ever made a 51 Single Coil P/J Bass?

Is this a Fender CS? I see the RSD bridge. Any idea the model name? Edit: found it

Has Fender (or anyone) ever made a 51 Single Coil P/J Bass?

Has Fender (or anyone) ever made a 51 Single Coil P/J Bass? Meaning, a bass with a 51 single-coil style Precision pickup with a Jazz Bass bridge pickup? I swear I saw one before but can't find it at all.

Carl is an elusive master, I've had no luck whatsoever trying to reach him for a build myself. Always stoked to see his craftsmanship and hear a positive story such as yours. Enjoy that beautiful bass :bassist:

FWIW my EMG PJ/BTS are going into an old MIJ Ibanez SR800. They can be regularly had on the used market for under $600. I also recently got a SR1206 that I'm converting to fretless, it was only $750. A quality SR on the secondhand market won't set you back very much, but the necks are...

He used EMG for many years prior to switching, both in Modulus basses live and Spector basses in the studio. My favorite studio tones of his are on Wretched Spawn, Kill, and Evisceration Plague.

I decided I'm going with the EMG PJ set and BTS preamp - since the players in this camp whose tones I enjoy (Webster, Rex, Ellefson, Newsted) used plain-jane classic original-recipe EMGs, and most of those basses also had simple 2-band preamps. The BTS allows me to additionally tweak the treble...
