Gucdude , here is a possible alternative solution to your situation you can try if your Crestwood amp has 2 inputs.. On my old solid state vintage guitar amp ( Ram 10 str ) , the second lower gain input also functions as an output. Similar to what we old timers do when joining the channel inputs...

Oh and forgot to say too that I didn't think the original combo had enough space for the stock 15" to respond right ; another reason I split off the head and built the 15" into a different sealed cabinet.

Correction , shelving controls not shelving units in post 3 , my bad brain......

Oh forgot to say I find with mine and my basses I cut the treble rotary , boost the bass knob and slide up the 80 and 160 hz sliders to about +8 db to get some juicier bass response.....

I own that amp too. You got a good deal . I found the combo heavy and awkward so I removed the amp section and rebuilt it into a little head . Then repurposed the 15" speaker . The thing I like about the amp is the 6 band EQ along with the bass and treble shelving units allows for decent tonal...

Don't forget the Traynor YBA200. They are not a lot of money and sound fantastic too. You can rent one to try out for comparison.....

Is the Fender Champ 12 class A ? It has one 6l6 output tube and 2 12ax7 preamp tubes. It sounds pretty good for bass at low practicing levels and has a line level out and a headphone jack which can mute the 12" guitar focused speaker. I have been using it as a powered pre-amp sort of ?

IIRC , one of the early Sears BXL amps ( possibly the 200 ? ) was designed by David Nordschow ? Can anyone confirm ?

Some factory service and that venerable old amp will last another 50 years ! But yeah , not a great accordion amp ......IMHO.

Just to clarify post #69 : the late seventies YBA1 was housed in a wider chassis and head box. Does anyone know if the late seventies versions differed electronically ?

In the linked picture , the head is a guitar amp. For sure , the YBA1 and YBA1A are much narrower.

So true ! How interactive do the 4 tone controls on the old YBA1 and YBA1A seem to be ? I can't remember and when I had the old amp I never grasped what you just said about the low expander being mids and high expander being presence .
