Recommend me a coffee shop gig bass amp.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a small, portable practice amp mainly for use in my living room and the occasional very small gig. What kind of power and size should I be looking at? My budget isn't huge, certainly no more than £200. Any help or suggestions welcome.

I recently got this made by a pal of mine for a good price. Pm me if you want some made up. He can write any text and do any colours/text colour combinations.

Squier Classic Vibe J Bass vs Classic Vibe P Bass

I think a P bass would suit those influences rather than a jazz. Lots of Pbass players in that list

Link Removed Link Removed Interesting to see the development of the Ibanez Fakers. The top one is an earlier example with a 'mudbucker' neck PU and distinctive bridge PU used on some other Japanese brands. Rumour has it that Mudbucker is a actually a single coil in a massive case! In the...

Here's my Kasuga. It's my fourth, final and best Faker. Having owned a few, I've always sold them on for various reasons but this one is a keeper. The tone and playability are amazing. The pickups are higher output than a genuine Rick but I prefer that. I believe it's a 1975 model.

If you really want to buy new (most rickenfaker builders were stopped by rickenbacker in the 70s, hence why they might be hard to source) the Tokai Rockinbetters might be worth a look. There is lots of debate as to whether the tokai company build these but I've heard good things about them...

Nice, I've had my eyes peeled for a 51 single coil style for the Gherson but I've gone the Jazz PU way as I had one lying around and I'm not a fan of the real rick bridge PUs.

Could you not sell the BAII and buy the hipshot for a tiny bit more? I suppose to you guys over there BAIIs are ten a penny, over here in the UK they are getting like hen's teeth!

Wow, absolutely stunning! I don't normally like 4000s but yours is so striking! I love that bass and the Warwick bridge looks so elegant there. Do you build to order? If not you should!

Could work, I bet the finish isn't good underneath your bridge though so could look ugly as hell. If that's the problem I bet a hipshot Rick replacement bridge would sort it, be easier to fit and would probably look miles better too. Heres a pic of a weird Rickenfaker with a Badass bridge...

    1) Price wise (sorry, can't do $s!) anything from £250 (the Gherson was a little less but was a project without any back pickup) to £400 for really nice ones. Bolt ons a bit cheaper. 2) Basschat, the UK based bass forum has a lot of info about Rickenfakers. Maybe start there.

Now in the process of being modded with a kent armstrong toaster and a jazz PU.
