The OFFICIAL "Gretsch Bass Owners Club"

Can I have a number, please? I finally pulled the trigger on a Gretsch G2220 Junior Jet in walnut (beautiful dark red) from Elderly and got it Friday. :) I replaced the roundwounds with GHS 3020 Precision Flats - wow what a difference! Very comfortable to play, and I like the sound. I have yet...

Awesome - thank you so much, Mike!!

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

My uke bass saga continues. Still love the Journeyman, and am still trying to fix the distortion on the Hadean fretless solid-body. I applied Mike's solution to the Hadean, and while it helped the A string distortion it did not fix the distortion on the E string, particularly on the first...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Thanks Mike - I'm sure I jostled it a lot with all those changes. I'll probably give it a go this weekend.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Since the Galli flatwounds I wanted for my new Hadean solid-body were backordered, I ordered the Galli 20.5" tapewounds to tide me over. They are a bit short, in that the thread-wound section is sitting in the nut, but I think the 23" would be too long. I don't know if they will stretch enough...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

My bass teacher mentioned an issue with putting flatwounds on the solidbody Hadean. There is a note on Kala's page for the flatwounds, but there is also a buyer comment that they did it. Is the problem because the bridge is held off the body by (in Hadean's case, rather solid-looking) bolts on...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

It's going to depend on the song - I was looking for classical music and it likely won't sound 'right'.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

That's exactly it - they are playing around the 19th fret - the OscarS and Journeyman only go to 16 (and the 16th sounds bad on the JM) so I'd need to transpose or re-arrange the tab. The new Hadean has more frets, but that high they are super-narrow.

And it's here! Holding it up to the Journeyman it seems to be the same length. Luckily my concerns re: the neck size were for naught - it's quite comfortable for my short fingers. It's a little bit neck-heavy but but nearly as much as any of my other ukes/bass ukes. The Hadean is pretty...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Hello everyone! I have a bit of a different question regarding u-basses tonight. :) Yesterday I got a hankering for playing some classical melodies on the bass, but when I was googling for tabs I could only find a few written for such a short scale (on Stephen Cox's patreon). I know one can...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Hi all! I'm baaack! :) When we last tuned in, I was sending back "2020 uke bass purchase #3" (#4 if you count the replacement Aklot sent me when the first one had issues) - the Hadean with F-holes. I found yet another Journeyman on Reverb and verified with the seller that it indeed had...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

I think so - the most I've done to my instruments is change strings, and I even had a luthier change the Thundergut strings on my OS to Pahoehoes and I'm really hesitant to do more as I don't want to mess it up worse. I like it, it has good tone when you can control the G string's loudness. I...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Aaand it may be going back. :-( I had kept the amp volume low before, and when I turned it up to record my lesson the G string is way loud. Like rattle-stuff-on-the-walls loud. Rondo suggested a couple of things to try but they didn't help. Sigh.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

The Hadean arrived Tuesday. It has a great sound, and is very nice-looking though the finish is a bit sub-par. The neck is thicker than the OS, and I'm pretty sure the Journeyman, so it feels clunky and I'm struggling to reach string 4 on the higher frets (short fingers *sigh*). Love the...
