If I use a body blank with just the neck pocket routed I could shape the body myself. For the bridge I am thinking an acoustic bass bridge, some of these do not have predefined string width. I want a string spacing similar to a guitar only a little wider ;)

Yes, I use roundwound now, and there good for "jaco" sound(rear pickup, close to the bridg). Picking at the lower part of the fretboard I get a decent upright'ish sound.. Just wanted to know if someone knew if nylon core strings where better than regular flatwound, and if you can get a "jaco"...

nylon strings, do they sound moore upright bass'ish? Is it possible to get some kind of "jaco" sound on these? or are they to mellow...
