I have a sub gig now and then that the singer uses that term. He usually acquaints it to songs that are repeatedly 1 and 4 chord forever. He had a keys player that looked at me and stated, "just stay Dorian." Like that was an explanation. It was an old r&b 1 and 4 through out the verse.
