Should I learn to play bass?

It's not a matter of the bass itself, the instrument just doesn't do it for me. the RD500 is a great bass (for all I know lol) but I just don't dig it. I'll stick to playing some rhythm guitar with my son (when I can keep up lol). Marc

Should I learn to play bass?

LOL - first time anyone ever commented about that :) The camera we use is a Canon SD1000, a tiny point & shoot that does video as well. I just bought a tripod for my DSLR so the next videos should be more stable :)

Well the story ends here... I bought the Ibanez, played a bit, just can't seem to get into it... So I'm selling now... If anyone in the Montreal area is reading this, or anywhere else for that matter :) The Ibanez RD500 is up for grabs! 350$ CAD...

Should I learn to play bass?

Yeah, it's a 2007 Limited Ed. It came in this color only, with the piezo pickups. Neat feature, not being used much but it's there if we need it. Uh, I should say if HE needs it lol. Marc

Should I learn to play bass?

It's not really a matter of the guitar per say, I get the same pain playing Rock Band on the XBOX360... And you can't have smaller scale then this. I have latent tendonitis that just wont go away (due to work mostly). I thought I might do better with bass than guitar but I guess the problem's...

Should I learn to play bass?

Well, got the Ibanez tonight, playing with a pick for now, as I'm used to it from playing guitar. It's a gorgeous instrument, very happy with it. Started to learn Pink Floyd's Breathe to play along with my son, it's fairly easy actually. Unfortunately, the pain is sort of coming back (didnt...

Should I learn to play bass?

So it's a matter of personal taste, not sonority. ok :) Thanks! Marc

Should I learn to play bass?

But why/when would you use the varying types of playing (fingerstyle, thumb slapping or pick)? Does each style go with a music type? i.e. funk seems more like a slap style than picking, I've seen rock bass players doing mostly fingerstyle and some picking the strings...

Should I learn to play bass?

We have an Ibanez guitar here (S620EXQM) and I like it (my son uses it in the Hotel California and the summer camp vids), although it sounds nothing like the EBMM, which I find richer sounding. The neck of the Ibanez is fast and fun to play, we had 2 PRS Tremonti SE before with "baseball bat"...

Should I learn to play bass?

That's why I told my son he'd have to learn mellow stuff ;) so I can play along. Floyd for example should be (i'm not generalizing) "easier" on the wrist. When (if even) do you use a pick on a bass? Marc

Should I learn to play bass?

I fully agree, no instrument is easy... except maybe the triangle... lol Takes dedication, motivation and definitely a love for it. I can't say I LOVE bass, but I'm sort of interested. I'll give it a shot, can't hurt to try :) Well actually in my case it can... :crying:
