I agree. If they do in fact have different necks for these basses then that would be really impressive. Good on HB for going the extra mile there. :thumbsup:

I don't see a lot of difference between them. The 40 says "deluxe hardware" but I don't don't see any difference besides the color of the saddles. They could be steel or chrome plated brass. Tough to tell. The pickups seem identical, Roswell JBAs. And without doing any research, I feel like...

For reference, this is how my Viola looks now with the pickups and bridge. I also made a new control plate and changed the knobs but that was just an aesthetic choice. I was upgrading the pots to better quality CTS and did the other mods at the same time.

While we're on the subject of upgrades, another thing I did on mine was replace the bridge with a Gretsch style. For me personally, this was a key upgrade. The stock bridge was a little too "thuddy" for my taste. The Gretsch gave a little more clarity and focus to the tone. Your mileage may...

I bought mine from Guitar Madness. I've bought a ton of stuff from them and have always been satisfied. They sell two different types of these pickups, alnico and ceramic. I went with the alnico set. Not sure how much of a difference they make but I just figured the alnicos would be warmer...

I never was able to find anything better than the Artecs without spending more than I wanted, so I’ve kept them in. To be fair, they’re darn good pickups for the money and I’ve grown to really like the way they sound. Very warm and thumpy. And beefier than the stock pickups for sure.

Thanks man but I’m not trying to build a fretboard lol. I just want a 51 P bass with a dark wood fretboard. I’ll probably just end up putting together a partscaster at some point.

Speaking of budget brands, I’ve been hearing some buzz about Gear4Music and their house brands. I think they’re based in the UK. Seems like they’re directly competing with HB. Any of you guys have the scoop on that company?

Speaking of white on white, the Vintera Tele bass is gorgeous. I wish HB would make a copy of this. I’m pretty sure it would sell like hot cakes.
