maybe it’s a selling point/price justification … for guys who will never know the difference. many of us have been down that rabbit hole path. it ain’t worth it except to learn what is worth it and what’s not. it like some guy telling me what frets i should use, meaning not ones i like. lol

BINGO. i am so depressed after i FINALLY let all this out on him. i’ve met plenty of guys like this. it’s a damn shame. they won’t listen, they just want to tell. i say: prove it.

that’s really his thing: if it isn’t precisely vintage, it’s useless. i told him we’ll blindfold him snd see if he can tell, and not just 2 basses, 6. i told him also that a vintage instrument is an OLD instrument. his build, though vintage spec everything, is NEW. so not the same.

indeed. he thinks everything Fender and Gibson makes today sucks unless it costs a fortune. i say, it’s much more about the player, not the bass. some guys can make anything sound fantastic. another friend, for example, has a few 1960-70 strats, and he is a strat guy, but recently he a $100...

he’s an amateur player of guitar and bass. he’s a one man “boutique,” i guess you might say, builder. he shapes the bodies himself, he doesn’t buy bodies he buys wood. …and the people he sells to are amateurs… let’s use a wide brush on the amateur thing. :)
