Tim worked extensively as a active freelance musician in Los Angeles California. He is a veteran of over two hundred and eighty film and television scores including the films Up, The Incredibles, Ratouille, Jurassic World, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Mission Impossible 3 and 4, Super 8, Cars 2. John Carter, Star Trek XI, X and Star Trek;Into Darkness, The Tale of Desperaux, Collateral Damage, The Negotiator, The Day After Tomorrow, Miss Congeniality, Something’s Gotta Give and The Wedding Planner. Television work includes Lost, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Battlestar Gallactica, the 2010 Winter Olympics, American music Awards, and the Muppet Family Christmas
An eclectic musician, Tim has played Contrabass on recordings for Stevie Wonder and Beyonce, Barbara Streisand, Josh Groban, Justin Timberlake, Michael Buble, Kenny G, Andrea Boccelli, young opera phenomenon Jackie Evancho and “Popera” artists Katherine Jenkins and Paul Potts as well as pop singers Rufus Wainright, Brandy, John Tesh, Celine Dion and Toni Braxton.
He played in the pit and on stage for dozens of major theatrical productions including Curtains, Swing, Candide, Swan Lake, and Ragtime. Tim also developed the role of “Uncle Chester”, the Beatnik bass player, in five different productions of “Forever Plaid”. Gamers can hear him on the low end of the soundtracks of Fall of Liberty, Splinter Cell, Halo, Call of Duty, Jumper, Assassin’s Creed II, Advent Rising and Bioshock 2
Tim has performed live with a diverse array of artists including Jazz vocalists Natalie Cole, Della Reese and Cheryl Bentyne of the Manhattan Transfer, Jazz guitar virtuosos Joe Pass and Herb Ellis, R&B pioneers Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry, master Jazz saxophonists Art Pepper, and Eddie Harris, Motown artists Mary Wells and Martha Reeves, Swing-Era staples Lionel Hampton and the Glenn Miller orchestra, British Invasion stalwarts Ian Whitcomb and Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits, Musical Theater diva Liza Minelli, Blues maven Linda Hopkins, Disco queen Donna Summer, Hollywood legend Mickey Rooney, Broadway icons Carol Channing, Shirley Jones Theodore Bickel and John Raitt, Rock veteran Rod Stewart, Harlem Renaissance dance titans The Nicolas Brothers as well as scat-singing innovator Cab Calloway.
He received his M.M. in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California and studied arranging and Film and Television composition for two years at the premier modern music school of Dick Grove. Tim is a dedicated music educator with decades of experience and is the author of “Odd Meter Bass”, a book/CD Bass method published by Alfred Music. He is co-author, along with Fred Sokolow, of “Fretboard Roadmaps published by Hal Leonard Music. He is a contributor to “The Funkmasters; The Rhythm Sections of James Brown” and has written numerous articles for Bass Player magazine.
