This resonated a lot. This is somewhat a new band and we're still trying to figure out how to play together and where eachothrs boundaries are. At first the guitarist (following the stereotype) was blasting his stuff through the roof and making everybody go deaf, now things are much better...

Thanks a lot for your answer. We were using in-ear monitors which I believe were playing what was played on the speakers. The problem I found with that is that they were in-ear, so they don't (can't) account for room acoustics... The system we used was wired, but wouldn't a wireless system do...

80-150Hz are not low mids, right? My EQ only has 4 bands: bass, low mid, high mid, treble. So I'm trying to roll back bass and low mids to help with the muddy stuff. The idea to talk with the guitar is good, I'll talk with him to see how his EQ is set and whether it is influencing this or not.

Thanks for the ideas, I'm tweaking with my EQ as well as getting a HPF to get rid of the really low stuff. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens, next gig is this Friday

I just managed to get one of these HPF filters from another TBer. Now I'll need to learn how to dial it so it doesn't kill my sound. :) particularly interested in the LPF since I don't want it to cut all the pops from slapping. Thanks for the advice guys!

Yes. I asked him what frequency he meant and he said around the 300-400Hz. I believe he did correct the muddiness, it was more of a pointer on how to avoid it (maybe?).

Thanks this is great! I'm gonna try these changes on our next gig. About the compressor, I have some slapping in the repertoire which is reason I added the compressor. Is it a good idea to tweak the compressor settings during the show? Maybe rolling it back (or turning it off) for no-slap songs...?

I think the venue was quite challenging indeed. My amp was in the middle of the stage, it was placed directly behind my butt pointing at me. The PA speakers were on the corners pointing diagonally towards the middle. There was glass next to the speakers and I can imagine how the low end might...

I'm actually quite annoyed by hums in general. So, when practicing I try my best to Mute everything. I noticed I sometimes keep my pinky anchored on my E string when I'm working on the other strings... I wonder if in a band scenario, since I can't hear things so clearly I may start slacking...

I think he is on the good side. The venue was challenging too. I don't think he was trying to diss me in anyway.
