    I also have an early-model XJ-1T and I love the sound, I’m just kind of looking for something less traditional this time . Mine is Dark Cherry Metallic with gold hardware, and it actually made me realize that black/dark finishes with gold hardware or details are probably my favorite look.

    Haha, true — but Nathan is on another level. He could make almost anything sound good! My concern is mainly that some DI demos sound a bit plain/neutral to me, so I’m trying to figure out whether that’s just the demos or part of the bass’s actual character.

    Agreed, the white one is really classy. I’m personally leaning toward the black finish though — a little more understated, but still very elegant.

    Thank you, that’s a very helpful perspective. The neck-through point makes a lot of sense, especially since I’m practicing pentatonic lines and soloing more lately, so upper-neck access and a smooth heel are definitely a plus for me!

    Thank you, that’s really helpful. “Immediate” actually sounds like a good thing for me — I was hoping it would feel responsive and not slow or overly soft under the fingers. When you say it sounds very even, does that also apply to the low B string? I’m especially curious about the transition...
