Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Thanks for all replies. According to this it's fixed BIAS and I guess that means no need even if I would remove two tubes? Right? The Orange Amp Field Guide Regarding getting info on the two replaced tubes - unfortunately it was sent away and I did not have direct contact with the repair show...

Removing 2 of 4 tubes to get a bit more tube drive?

Hi, Anyone that can share some knowledge and/or recommendation regarding removing 2 of 4 tubes in all-tube amps? I got an AD200B tube amp earlier this year and it was just awesome, whatever bass I played plugged in sounded totally amazing. Something that none of the modern Ampeg I tried could...

Dilemma: A Bass Purge (What to Keep and What to Sell?)

Would love to try them out and compare feel and how they sound first - feel and sound is what it's all about right? I don't know how these compare to other versions which make the question more difficult. Let's face it - all of these are great instruments! But if I would have to choose based...

    Ampeg SVT vs Orange AD200B

Thanks to all for lots of interesting points-of-views and tips on my question about tube-amps, it really did help a lot to dial in what amps was for me. I did play a few modern Ampeg tubeheads but it seemed to me they needed lots of volume to really sound their best, while the Orange AD200...

Lull, Lollar or Thunderbucker for Gibson Thunderbird?

It's been a while but if you are curious about what I decided... I went with Seymour Duncan Custom Shop pickups. They fitted the routing of my Gibson Thunderbird. The pickups really did magic to the tone of the bass, think vintage with a bit added bottom and bite. Lots more definition of tone...

    Thunderbird Pickups?

I've been playing my Thunderbird with the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop pickups for some 5-6 months now (thanks again for the suggestion @Dogghouse and thanks to everyone else for your comments). They fitted perfectly on my Gibson Thunderbird, the frames did not but I wasn't sure I wanted to put...

    Ampeg SVT vs Orange AD200B

One of my first amps was an Acoustic 220 head with 2x15 cabinet (perhaps modelname was 215B?) that I got late 70's and it was a real work horse, reliable without any issues for years and years! Later I got a Pearce BC-1 preamp with a Carver 2x450 watt Power-amp and did run them through 2...

    Ampeg SVT vs Orange AD200B

Thanks all for your comments! It's really been an interesting read, exactly what I hoped for. Also got me curious about the Matamp GT200... sounds like most of you guys regard that one somewhat a holy grail of tube bass amps. Right? As most of you said, probably can't go wrong with any of...

    Ampeg SVT vs Orange AD200B

Thanks for your comment! I do understand it's a bit like Mac vs PC, Fender vs Gibson, Apples vs Oranges etc etc but never the less... I've read quite a lot of those tons of info you mentioned already, but find that quite often people have not really played both and are bias to what they own and...

    Ampeg SVT vs Orange AD200B

I've been playing Solid-state amps for all my life but are now about to go for a tube amp, and consider which one is the best possible. I've been reading up on the web and Ampeg SVT and Orange AD200B pops-up often and both get the most amazing reviews and comments. I'm interested in hearing...

    Thunderbird Pickups?

Really cool! I hear you regarding the 5-string - you don't think this could do the trick - with added Lollars? Invalid Link Removed I guess there's no active pre-amp in this one, and perhaps it's not as cool color as the candy red but othervise pretty nice too. :-)

    Thunderbird Pickups?

That red Thundercat sounds great and looks amazing with those pickups! Great job! Is all the switches still active too? I preferred the tone in the sample where you use both pickups. I've been considering getting one of these Jaguar Basses but since I've got both a Fender Jazz and a Precision I...

    Thunderbird Pickups?

@Toptube Thanks a lot for your reply and comments. Interesting idea with the Jaguar bass, I'm sure it's amazing and looking forward to your sound samples of that one. Interesting to read your conclusion on the options and they align with my impression after searching for information and...

    Thunderbird Pickups?

@heatoise Thanks a lot for the respond and for the suggestion about the bridge. I've not thought about that, but of course the bridge makes a lot of difference to tone and sustain as well. And this one looks like an excellent choice for me since its use of the existing holes in the body.

    Thunderbird Pickups?

@heatoise: Thanks, that was a question I've really been looking for an answer to. Would you say the tone with the Lull's are more defined? The original Gibson pu's on these newer T-birds are a bit dull and undefined in my opinion.
