I'm not sure what you mean by "an interference fit lengthwise." I expect the block will have to be inserted while the neck is pulled back to be parallel with the body top so that the block KEEPS the neck at that angle and effectively counteracts the string pull on the neck.

I'm not a fan of bashing anything (unless I'm in front of TV and sports interviewer asks the most dumb question), but I do have the "neck lift" issue on my 1974 4001 Mapleglo. I believe the cause is the neck pickup rout's not being strong enough to counteract the string tension. I've tried 4...
