Another photo before I had the high string (using .007 from octave4plus)

Five-year update! This photo was at the point of installing hardware and adding a nut. It was finished in 2016 and have been using it regularly, especially for gigs requiring reading music. It works well as it is not necessary to shift positions much to play anything written.

hover, you know what's funny? I see your photo with that Fender, and I'm thinking, "damn.. I need to get one of those!".. I used to have a Jazz Bass but had to sell it when times were hard. Someday I'll get a Fender yet.

Well, the way I see it, the lowest notes are at the first position, where it's not so wide. And when you get up high on the fingerboard, you simply will not be able to get to the low strings easily, but they should not be needed often up there. It's a bit of a compromise, and frankly I don't...

I think it's really 17.5mm spacing, but that's not center-to-center but is rather the space between the strings. And no peanut butter is involved for real, but it will be tasty!

I am, of course, partial to tung oil. But I would certainly use some kind of polyurethane if you want something that will protect a bit from minor dings and scratches.
