Thanks everyone. this has been one of those occasions when you have to take an aspect of your own technique out for judgement and discover that the jury says guilty. As artists we all enjoy applause and appreciation but now and again an ego deflater is still required.

Many thanks for your considered opinion. A supplementary thought: presumably the "delivered sound" from a miked-up and amplified dbass is fractionally slower than that from bgtr pu and amp.

For what its worth: very expensive signature 6-string bass came with hard case - kept in hard case. Cheapo active fretless 4-string used most often but carried to and from (gigs/rehearsals), and very fortunate in that it fits into a a thin padded soft case within a thick padded soft case...

Here's a trick: use garden strimmer blades (Bosch) snip the "tail of the blade" to size and voila! Your strap holds forages. Only problem is the blades are green in colour. One pack of these blades will outlive you and your bass collection.
