    That one's not a contrabass, just a bass. I think it's an octave higher. Search google for балалайка контрабас : балалайка контрабас - Google Search Several of the links on the first page are merchants, and they are for sale from around $1-3.5K. Plus some prohibitive shipping, I'm sure!

    Contra-bass Balalaika?

    There is no comparison...an ABG is basically worthless without a pickup. A contrabass balalaika will shake the walls. I wanted an acoustic bass that could be heard, without having to learn to play a fretless upright. This fits the bill...same scale length as an upright, sans the G string...

    Contrabass Balalaika... Should I?

    Well I hope you do get one; I scored an old Lunacharsky off Ebay some years ago and it's awesome. Someone asked about subcontrabass; I've read that the tuning is the same and it just has a larger body (not sure how authoritative that information is). Anyway the one I have is 47" on the side...
