stop wanking and play the bass

I'm discovering that sometimes looking "busy" is enough to be accused of being too "busy". I play a lot of ghost notes. I just replaced a guy that wouldn't know a ghost note if it haunted his dreams. I think the drummer sees me hitting ghost notes and thinks I'm playing actual notes...

    Steve Bailey speaks on Warwick/Fender..

Yeah, but Steve hasn't been back since those jive-a** questions about some "questionable" practices from Warwick. Man, this site is something else. WTH? How rude. Like Steve Bailey would have any knowledge of this garbage, even if it were true. It's not like the info was reported by any...

    The Truth About Gene Simmons

"The Kings Of Leon" One of the worst, most amateuristic bands I've ever heard in my life. Those guys couldn't sing on pitch with AutoTune. Terrible stuff.

    Paul McCartney

Paul loves the major third. Jamerson was more into 2nds, fifths, flat 7's and a lot of syncopation. Paul got a ton of mileage out of the major third. If you watch his fingering, you'll see that he often frets the low E with the second finger, and puts his first finger on the major 3rd one...

    Michael Anthony and Van Halen

I can't say I know all of the official reasoning, but if you work out the circle of fifths manually and let's say never use flats, the key signatures start to get very cluttered very fast, and difficult to read. So it seems that by "splitting" the circle in half, with an equal number of flat...

In memory of Mark Adams (R.I.P.)

I can't argue with that, my man. Hey, I rock the balk look too but I gotta say I don't get those looks much anymore, like I did back in the 90's. Did Mark ever record with other bands or projects? I'm particularly interested in any good live footage that shows him doing what he did.

DOH. I guess that colorblind thing is really working? :)

Will do. Stuart Zender laid down some fonky too.

In memory of Mark Adams (R.I.P.)

Cool. I hope you don't think there's anything racial in my post, cuz there isn't. Just a color. Plain white. and boring sometimes. Nothing wrong with seeing color my friend, nothing at all. Because it's just a color, nothing more. The problems are when people equate color with...

In memory of Mark Adams (R.I.P.)

I love me some Rocco for sure, and for that bubbling finger funk it's hard to beat what he does. But I sure am digging some Mark Adams right now.

YEEEAHHH! Sort of reminds me of a Meter's type of groove and approach. Nice horns too! Man, how did I miss these cats? I'm gonna turn my drummer on to this stuff... Thanks a ton guys! Love those ghost notes Mark is laying down. Fingerstyle funk for days! Everybody says "Rocco" and he's...

+100000 Yes, please post that. Listening to this stuff makes me realize how, ahem, WHITE my playing style is. I could use another shot of that funky for sure.

In memory of Mark Adams (R.I.P.)

Thanks guys for turning me on to this player. I missed that the first time around, being into metal guitar and all that jive back in the 80's. That's why I love this place: I'm always learning something new. It's just a shame that it took him dying for me to recognize.....

    Michael Anthony and Van Halen

If I'm not mistaken, on that one the guitars are in standard but the bass is in drop D. Doing that let's you pull off from the A to the low D on the V turnaround, which to my ears sounds "right" as compared to pulling off the low E. Tasty line.

    Michael Anthony and Van Halen

Right on. You're basically agreeing with me: I was just pointing out that the major and relative minor key signatures are themselves identical, and contextual clues from the music itself are needed to make the determination of major or relative minor. You know, I find it easier to see the...
