Blues, 50's and 60's R&B (I currently play these three genres), Soul, Classic Rock, Golden Age Country, Bluegrass, Piano Jazz, Lounge Music.
Gigs and Ensembles
Currently, I am the bassist for Zach Koch. Zach is a 17 year old budding Blues guitarist. We play festivals and some juke joints in Mississippi. We also play Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, Mississippi, about two times a year. I have also played local gigs with Soul Blues legend, Johnny Rawls. Johnny is from my hometown of Purvis, Mississippi. I am occasionally called on to play pickup gigs as well.
Previously Owned Gear
I still own most of the gear I have accumulated over a 40 year period.
G.A.S. List
Nothing at this time. I have about all I need to do what I do.
Influences and Teachers
I always wanted to play drums. But my parents said it was too much noise. So, I chose the electric bass (boy! Were they regretful of that!). My biggest influences have been Donald "Duck" Dunn, Tommy Cogbill, Keith Ferguson, Dusty Hill, Bernard Odum, Fred Thomas, Tommy Shannon, Geezer Butler, John Paul Jones, Peter Cowling, and Tim Bogert. I taught myself bass by playing along with records. I play by ear, but I have accumulated basic knowledge of the bass fretboard (notes, scales, etc.). With over 40 years of bass playing behind me, I still learn often. If I could have made a living playing music in my youth, I likely would have became professional. I now play because it is expression and therapy for my soul.
Hobbies and Interests
I enjoy spending time with my wife (27 years of marriage) and my grandkids. I like to garden, travel, do some traditional woodworking, read historical books, and watch old movies.
