school project-just finished a full 40 page draft of a music theory primer for intermediate bassists

i deeply appreciate you guys taking the time to comb through this... like wow. this is so much more in depth than what i was expecting. I am clearly not a music major--this project is for an interdisciplinary program and I am self-taught. Covid has really made this more difficult than I...

school project-just finished a full 40 page draft of a music theory primer for intermediate bassists

Hey everyone, I've been working on this project for school for the better part of two years and really think another pair of eyes would really help me fine-tune it for the target audience (high school band kids whose music program doesn't provide bass instruction). Check it out! This is a...

    "Practice" tone vs. gig tone

Definitely! It's kind of like a jazz upright player practicing with a bow, even if they're rarely using it at the gig. We don't have to worry about intonation with a fretted instrument but muting is a bigger beast in electric technique than upright.

    "Practice" tone vs. gig tone

I've been practicing with my tone knob and bridge pickup cranked and just a little bit of neck for about three months (J/J bass). I'm not reaching for this kind of tone in any gig I have right now, but the clarity of these pickup settings makes finger noise, extra string vibration, and other...

Turns out that my thumb nail and a long sermon at church was all it took to get the gunk off... appreciate all the in-depth information, certainly a good reference for future mishaps

Leather strap residue left on bass body--possible to remove?

Probably so! "Leather residue" doesn't make the most sense but I couldn't think of what else it could be. E: it's got a pretty coarse texture

Leather strap residue left on bass body--possible to remove?

So I left my strap on my bass while storing it in my gig bag for a day or so, nothing unusual for me. Obviously wouldn't do it again though. When I packed the bass up I had just finished playing outdoors in Arkansas for 2~ hours (i.e. hot and humid), the rest of the time it was in the case after...

Paying attention to giving equal duties to the right hand index and middle finger

Thanks for the detailed response. I see what you mean about finger lengths when playing, If I sat down with every piece I worked on and picked apart my RH, I wouldn't be making much useful progress. It knows better than I ever could. Glitches in specific scenerios are what I've been laying...

Paying attention to giving equal duties to the right hand index and middle finger

I've recently started watching and thinking about my right hand beyond just "letting the fingers decide" and have noticed some sloppy tendencies. Ideally, I would like for my index and middle finger to be used 50/50 when playing a style where they are both necessary (fingerstyle funk)...
