Double Bass Is there a law aagainst playing a German bow with a French grip?

I have a similar problem. Starting off with a German bow, here. It looks less intuitive to use than the French bow, but I will give it a try, nevertheless. This is not a big problem for me, at least for now. Being a bass player and a newbie on the upright bass, I will definitely prefer the...

Sterling by Music Man Ray34HH pickguard

Indeed, they have nice pickguards. That might explain why they are all sold out. Thanks anyway! I'll check to see if they have new ones available from time to time.

Manufacturing Defect? Got the New Sterling by Musicman Ray34HH and..

Thomann did well. Following my complaint, Thomann completely redeemed itself, and paid in full for the repair of the bass by the luthier and, contrary to my thoughts behaved in a trustworthy and competent manner. They were absolutely ethical and correct in handling the problem. I thus come back...

Manufacturing Defect? Got the New Sterling by Musicman Ray34HH and..

My bad! I (naively) trusted the bass was OK being what it is (or should be!) and coming from where it came. So, I threw the box away before examining the bass properly. I know. It was stupid of me. Besides, considering the bass took one week to arrive and what I read on TrustPilot, saying this...

Manufacturing Defect? Got the New Sterling by Musicman Ray34HH and..

I just purchased the Stingray34hh too. It arrived with lots of problems: intonation, the E chord was buzzing from the 15th fret down The output jack hole was so tiny that I could barely insert a normal jack into it. The frets edges hurt like knives as they were not properly filed. I am amazed...

What 5 string bass do you think of first when the topic of 5 string basses come up?

Ibanez SR505E-BM, perhaps because I own one. Not top notch, but a good sound, and a great price/quality ratio

    EAGDC string set

I've been (was) a guitar player too. I barely used the high E-string, (just for 13ths, 11ths and 9ths... I did a lot of compying). Then I got rid of my Strat... I see your point,

    EAGDC string set

I have already ordered a set of Rotosound RS886LD (135, 115, 100, 75, 65, 50). I understand they are a bit thicker than what I'm used too (105 - 45) , but I'm hoping to get *that* double-bass tone... Anyway, I'll keep your tip it in mind in case my set doesn't work and in the future. Thanks again!

By the way, flats and nylons (tapes) are for me. I'm not so much a roundwound fella! :-)

Crawford, J Posega: Thanks for the valuable tips! They encourage me to go ahead with the plan. I'll ask a luthier to do the job (more sure for a first time!)
