When I play fifth fret on the a string, my e string starts making noise. However when I play using any other fret, or an open a, the e string doesn't move at all. I know I'm not touching the e string what is happening?

I feel like studying off of a book that has a lot bass music and exercises in it will help me to know my bass better and make my bass playing better

So I just got an epiphone thunderbird iv bass two days ago. First time ever playing the bass. I've noticed that when I'm playing I get some buzz on certain notes, how do I know if it's just me being bad or if its a problem with the bass?
