Just ordered this Japanese-made G&L L2000. What do I have here?

I finally have it in my hands, and yeah that pick guard is...something, but I'll live with it for now. Standard control layout, I'll have it rewired for the single coil option at some point. The play of the light and grain in the pics don't do it justice, the body contouring (whoever did it) was...

Just ordered this Japanese-made G&L L2000. What do I have here?

Ok, that's quite a definitive statement. However, I have personally seen other L2000's with an unsealed oil finish in Japan just a few months ago. I also saw a few with the gold hardware you mentioned that were beautiful in a variety of colors, but I didn't like the necks. I'm not saying one way...

Just ordered this Japanese-made G&L L2000. What do I have here?

I haven't heard a single bad word spoken about Japanese instruments so far. A friend who was a professional studio musician for years gushes about Tokai basses and he encouraged me to buy this one. Our AI overlords concur with what you said - that these Japanese Tributes were made for 3 years...

Just ordered this Japanese-made G&L L2000. What do I have here?

Yeah, the pick guard kind of turned me off at first, but I'll have to see how she plays before I change it. A pick guard is easy to change, I was more drawn to the unsealed ash body with beautiful grain, and the slim neck with rosewood. I'm in Thailand and I've tried a few Indo-made L2000s and...

Just ordered this Japanese-made G&L L2000. What do I have here?

Ha, I figured that pick guard would rile people up, it's kinda got some Bootsy Collins or Prince vibes going on. It's pretty fanciful for my tastes, but I have a woodworking shop and may replace it with a wood pick guard. I'll need to see it in person first, should arrive tomorrow.

Just ordered this Japanese-made G&L L2000. What do I have here?

It's possible, but I was told they made some of these custom versions in an oil finish at the Tokai factory. I paid about $500 for it from a well-reputed importer of second hand Japanese instruments here in Thailand where I live. It should arrive in the next couple days.

Just ordered this Japanese-made G&L L2000. What do I have here?

This popped up at a shop that imports second-hand Japanese guitars and I couldn't resist. It is ash wood that is unsealed and has an oil finish. I haven't seen any other examples of this, anyone know any more details?

    G&L Tribute SB-2 Bass Guitar

This is what I was looking for! ^^^ While I had my eyes set on an L-2000, I was unimpressed with the three Tributes I played at my local shop - especially the necks. Was just about to leave, but the SB2 caught my eye. Neck felt so good in the hand and I was surprised at the variety of tones it...
