RIP Cakewalk

I'm going to keep using it until it stops working and then I guess I'll go back to Cubase. If I were a Mac user I'd use Logic. I tried Reaper but couldn't stand the GUI, maybe it's better now, that was years ago.

I used Cakewalk and then SONAR for years ...I STopped using it when they went to the Subscription platform. .I thought that it was the beginning of teh end and i moved to Studio One . I'm NOT a Protools fan even though it is industry standard everywhere that i go.
I Love Studio One and i use an RME interface

Gibson ran my first DAW into the ground (Opcode Studio Vision) after acquiring the brand. That was unfortunate - Studio Vision was considerably more advanced and mature than Pro Tools was in the '90s (especially in regard to its extensive and elegant MIDI features, an area where Pro Tools was comparitively very primitive).

At least they didn't get to do it to me again, since I switched from Sonar to Reaper eight years ago. If I'd still been using Sonar when Gibson acquired it, I probably would've started looking at other options fairly soon instead of waiting for history to repeat itself.

Perhaps Cakewalk will rise phoenix-like from its own ashes, smouldering and not entirely quenched by Gibson's touch. One can hope.

Check out Presonus Studio One 3 free version. If you like it, you can get the full feature version free with one of their interfaces. And if you really like it and want to master, you can get the Pro version.

I still use Sonar 2...
on my 2002 made, air-gapped, Windows XP, UAD-1 running, MOTU-828 based, dedicated Digital Audio Workstation.
People sometimes make fun of it and the power supply and cooling fans are louder than an air conditioner, but it still works.
...I need an upgrade.
