    Which reissue bass with flatwounds?

Thanks pbass2 for your comment. I'm not playing for recording sessions, just for fun. But I'm wondering whether I need to keep all three basses, now that I've tried them all with flatwound strings. I already know I don't like the Stingray with roundwounds — it's not an option for me, because the...

    Which reissue bass with flatwounds?

Initially, I wanted to make the comparison because flatwound strings smoothen the differences between the three basses. And oranges become closer to apples…

    Which reissue bass with flatwounds?

If the sound plays an important role, we shouldn’t forget the feel of the instruments either. These three instruments are quite different: the P has a heavily relic’d neck with its ’61 shape, the MM is all glossy — neck and all — and I think it’s the best-looking one. The Höfner is glossy...

I also used to think that I would lose the distinctive Stingray tone, but I found that the old-style electronics (the two-knob version) actually work better with flatwound strings than with roundwounds. It’s more intuitive to dial in the sound you want. Moreover, with flats you get another...

    Which reissue bass with flatwounds?

Thanks for your comment edmidlifecrisis. Even though they sound quite similar, when played with the band, each gives the music a distinctly different vibe. The P Bass provides a great sound for the band — right present and a bit muddier — and it serves the music well, as we all know. The...

    Which reissue bass with flatwounds?

Dear Bass Players, Curious to hear which bass with flatwounds you prefer among these three, and whether you think it’s worth keeping all of them (or just one or two). Höfner, Precision and Stingray with Flats (comparison)
