Hey I just picked up a new set of D'Addario EXL160 Nickel Wound strings, and noticed that all the strings on my current Spector Euro 5 (2003/4) and it turns out the .135 string can't fit in the bridge. I see there's an option for a tapered .135, and I think the rest will fit, but does it matter...

Quick question on plucking hand + string skipping while condescending.

Only issue now is unlearning the technique I've been practicing for 5 years :roflmao::dead:

Quick question on plucking hand + string skipping while condescending.

I did read an old thread Jimmy posted in where someone recommended to practice SA always, but when playing play however. I think if I work on SA I'll be able to play more fluidly. Thanks for everyone's input, Jimmy you've convinced me to at least practice SA heavily

Quick question on plucking hand + string skipping while condescending.

I feel like raking is a legitimate technique, and I've used it for many years now, so probably not going to do this. When you're playing faster lines and raking, you can't simply end up using the finger you want to start with every time, sometimes you'll end up needing to start with another...

Quick question on plucking hand + string skipping while condescending.

Well when I'm doing quicker runs I don't really have an option to choose which finger starts ascending. If I start on A for instance, with my Middle finger, go down to E with my middle finger (rake) I can't exactly choose to go up to D with my middle finger, as I just performed a rake with my...

    Hahahahah <3 Dang autocorrect.

Quick question on plucking hand + string skipping while condescending.

I do that now, and I prefer doing it, I just don't do it when I start with my middle finger is all. I'm assuming even when using the raking technique while descending, I should be alternating when string skipping right? To clarify, just trying to confirm which of those two things I do is...

To those of you who are self taught...

Kind of related, I'm self taught and I feel like my tech skill is fine, good even. I can play pretty much whatever I want pretty quickly after spending a little bit learning it. However, I cannot improvise. The main thing I want is to be able to play what's in my head without thinking much about...

Quick question on plucking hand + string skipping while condescending.

Errr, typo in the thread title, think it got autocorrected ;) Hey I've been playing bass for a while and recently started to focus on my right hand technique making sure it's consistent and noticed something odd. I use the raking technique instead of alternating for everything, but it's not...

Thanks! And yeah, I echo your feelings on the ergonomics and pre-amp. I even tested my old bass and new bass with the same amp settings. When turned to full volume on my old bass, I'd get maybe about 1/2 of the volume I now get from my Euro turned just 25% up on both pickups. No effort creates...

Oh I can already tell. Sure, I have this great new bass...but I was planning on using my old bass for different tunings. Now that I've played the Euro 5, I'm not sure I'm going to like playing my old one very much at all. :\

Wow after giving myself a couple days to get used to the Euro (string spacing is a bit further, neck is longer, etc. than what I'm used to), I gotta say this thing plays fantastically. I'm actually kind of sad I didn't get one earlier. I'm going through runs I've have difficulty in the past on...

    5 string question

Agreed on this. I have a $100 Ampeg and an older $600amp+cab rig and the difference between the two is immense. I love the practice amp for portability, but man it just doesn't do my B (Well, G# for me) justice.

Heh. johndb's Euro is sitting within 30 minutes of my house but technically 'in transit' so I can't pick it up. That knowledge makes the wait even harder lol. So it's a Euro 5 then? I know that chart says 2004 would be an LX, but as you said they made Euro 5s early in 2004. I mainly just want...

Modern bassists with a unique style?

Can't echo this enough. Joe Dart's insane. Linus Klausenitzer of Alkaloid/Obscura/etc also has an awesome playing style and tone, really expressive, though 90% of the time it's fretless (nothing super weird about how he plays though). Jeroen Paul Thesseling of Pestilence and Obscura for that...

    5 string question

I wouldn't worry about the earliness you're buying it. I've been playing for 4 years now and have only ever used 5 string basses. Couldn't imagine playing on a 4 string now to be honest, but that's just a personal preference. If you're into anything downtuned, chances are you'll be needing a 5...

What is a bass guitar you respect but will never buy and why not

Anything with less than 5 strings, anything less than 34" Scale. Other than that I'm pretty down for anything. I've only ever owned/played 5 strings and every time I play a 4 string or a shorter scale bass is just feels wrong. I'm also a tall guy so shorter scales end up feeling like tiny...

    4 vs 5 string basses

Thread necro'd from 2011? Lol. Neither's better, I simply prefer having a larger range of notes I'm able to play. I learned on 5, so never had an issue with the neck size or anything. Couldn't imagine playing any less strings though now to be honest.

Hey guys, so I'm getting my Euro 5 LX next week. Probably not going to change the stings for a while (my other bass is downtuned and I haven't been able to play anything in standard tuning for a few years now, so kind of want a while to play in standard) BUT I will be switching to G#C#F#BE...

Yeah, was looking at that one. Problem is it's only 2 pics and I'm not sure if it's a '99-2000 era NS5CR, so I'm not sure of the scale length, which I kind of need to be 35".

Man, it's like everything Spector makes is a work of Art. So these are precursor to the Euro series I'm assuming? Any major differences (plusses/minuses)?

    Best Spector under $2k?

Thanks for all the replies, think I'm going with a used Euro5LX if I can snag one at a good price and color. As do I man. Sweet, thanks for your and everyone's replies. Pretty sure I'm going with a used Euro5LX if I can find one around $1500 or so.

I actually was checking that earlier. Really good pricing, I'm deciding if I like the color or not really. Normally I wouldn't be so picky but this'll probably be my bass for the next 5+ yrs so lots of thinking for me :P. I may hit you up later though, it'll be hard to find a deal that good.
