Mot a great pic but...

I still haven't finished it. But i used a little heat from a heat gun and a plastic scraper to remove the hardshell paint. Then the sanding and staining. Getting ready to finish it. Will post pics soon.

And the frets just pulled out easily using a fret pulling tool?

I used the Hipshot UltraLight 3/8 and they work perfectly.

In reaponse about mikro cases. My mikro 5 string body fits the hardshell case to my Ibanez Prestige guitar....except the mikro tuners are too wide for the head space in the prestige case. But...a little pushy pushy on the foam and i bet it would work like a charm.

So i was told to stay away from "light guage strings. Anyone try light guage on a mikro 5 string?

It's coming around. Just letting the radial nerve heal up a bit more. Took 4 months of physical therapy and i have full use. Just not full sensation...yet.

Thank you! I still have numbness on top of thumb from where they cut the radial nerve. But its only been 7.5 months post-op. I will be experimenting with my two 5 string mikros once this one is finished. Playing with the idea of swirl dipping enamel on one of them.

Don't know if this applies....(in case i misunderstood NoiseNinja). I bought 3 Mikros and also bought 3 stock Ibanez replacement bridges in black. They cost about $22.00 each through GC. The Hipshot tuners and knobs on the other hand.....

Ibanez briefly discontinued all mikros and removed them from the website about 4 months back. Local shop confirmed they received notification about it from ibanez. Then amazingly, re-added the mikros back to the lineup a few weeks later....after i bought the "last 5 string available" as a 2nd...

Haven't emailed them yet. Wanted to wait until ready to purchase which would be soon if all goes well next week.

My J pup measures 3 5/8" so it's the shorter of the two J pups from Bartolini. However, the Bartolini website isn't very clear at which model number is which. They simply state theres a difference but use the same spec pic for both?

A little help please? I can't find it on here but I know I've seen it. Can anyone tell me what direct drop-in Bart pups replacements fit this mikro? For some reason I can't find this info now...

I am surprised how well the rosewood looks with this stain. Was intending to go darker but now reconsidering...

I do know that there is a big difference in oil finish/wax topcoat tone vs. laquer and poly finish. The wood resonates wuite a bit more with oil and wax topcoat.

I doubt the body difference would translate through the cheapo pickups they put in them. This is an agathis body(older mikro). The newer 4 strings are mahogany. The 5 strings continue to be basswood. Honestly i havent even plugged this one in yet to hear a difference. But i have yet to play...

This is my first time refinishing an instrument and danish oil seemed like it yielded great results around the web so I decided to try it first. I plan on swirl dipping one of my 5-string Mikros for giggles. This one however will get a gloss poly Arm-R-Seal....may end up satin in the end.

That's sick man. What's the weight of a headless setup compared to the weight of a headstock and tuners? I've never seen the headless attachment in person so forgive me if this is an ignorant question.

Thanks Bonz! I have to refinish the neck and remove the black laquer from the headstock after i finish the body. Then my brother is doing the fretless conversion to the fingerboard. After which, it will receive new hardware and pups. So it may take a few months to have it "finished".

Have you considered doing a David Bowie book? The "1. Outside" album has an amazing couple of bassists on it. Namely Erdal Kizilcay who played on "The Voyeur of Utter Destruction (as beauty)" track. Phenominal musicianship all the way around.

Next i want to do one more pass with 320 to finish filling the grain. Then two passes with 420. Finally finishing with 0000 synthetic steel wool.

Watco danish oil. I sanded the raw wood to 220. Basically drowned the body for initial first stain. I let that cure for a week. Then i hit it with 220 grit and oil. Then two passes with 320 and oil. I didnt wait more than a few days in between for wet sanding.

Have about 2-4 more passes with the danish oil and working through the grits but it is starting to even out in color/tone and the wet sanding slurry is beginning to fill and smooth the grain out pretty surprisingly well.
