    source audio c4

I could use some help with one of my patches. It's designed to mimic a fretess bass and for my purposes works well except for one thing: it's not touch sensitive at all. I have played with the filter, the envelope, input gain, different sources, tried it from scratch and I just can't make any...

Truss rod extremely tight will not loosen - ideas?

I was thinking the same thing. Heat can work wonders for stuck things. I had a very tight truss rod once and after trying little bits of lubricant, I ended up bathing it in WD-40. That worked. But I think there are much better lubricants and penetrants out there.

    Graphite? Roasted? I need stability!

I have several basses, and I don't play them all regularly, I switch them up. Most of the necks are flat sawn, and I live in Florida, so I expect some movement. I check the ones I'm taking to a gig before I go, sometimes they need a tweak, most times not. But I always check. And I have proper...

    Graphite? Roasted? I need stability!

The seasoning and dryness of the wood matter a lot too. IMO roasting would achieve that. I've been thinking about my Modulus since I posted on the thread. I never once adjusted the rod. I had the bass several years and moved several times. Now you've got me wanting a carbon neck!

    Graphite? Roasted? I need stability!

Very few mentions of quartersawn wood, and that's very important to stability. So is well seasoned wood. I've had necks made of wood, quarter and flat sawn, aluminum, full graphite, graphite and steel rods. What I would do: If absolute stability is crucial, nothing beats graphite. Bite the...

    Pickups for 3 pickup bass

I get it about building lightweight basses. I've done it myself. Everything adds up. My preference for wood is Paulownia. Is is so resonant and sounds great. I have a couple of them. I was >interested in what other builders were doing with Paulownia, notably Spector who uses Paulownia wings. I...

    Pickups for 3 pickup bass

I'm very interested in the lightweight options. That's the thing that stops me from ordering a McGrath. Ever since I first heard of McGrath, they interested me. But I prefer lighter weight basses. Btw, that tilting eq is equally interesting. I've used tilting eqs and like them, although in this...

    Pickups for 3 pickup bass

A man after my own heart! Sounds like stuff I would do and I appreciate the rundown. I have a bazillion pickups. I'm leaning towards Bartolini DCs I have, but I'm not sure I can get the super depth I'm after with the neck. I could put a Delano mm I have there, a different Bart, one of a...

    Pickups for 3 pickup bass

If you were building a three pickup bass, what would you use? I'm thinking bright dual coils for the ability to switch and things. I'm also considering chrome finish on them, maybe Thunderbird? Fire away!

Ultralight tuners to fix the dead spot in a P bass?

I always use gotoh resolites and it works some, but depending on how bad the dead spot, success will vary. I find using them with a compressor will tame most dead spots.

Official Mesa Boogie Subway Series Club

Just a comment on small 115 cabs, I used to run one or two GK neo IIIs. Very light and had a great sound. But no real low end. I recall trying to get deep bass from them and all I got was a whole lot, I mean a lot, of air pumping from the port. But they had awesome midrange.

Someone suggested the Quilter approach, which involved having a cabinet with a slot for a head. That would certainly address the issue of having exposed controls. The old Genzler style of having an amp bolted to the top of an amp always put me off because of potential damage to the amp. So...

I've followed the cost issues of a Mesa Subway combo since the beginning. While I agree it would be super convenient, I wouldn't pay for it. That said, given mesa's recent foray into offshore manufacturing, it makes me wonder if Gibson has considered a Mesa-designed lower cost line of bass...

Mild envelope filter to mimic fretless bass

I got an EBS Bass IQ. I think it's the best, most versatile EF I've used. It almost gets me to the light effect I'm after, but I've only had it a couple of days. The EBS has up and down modes that both work great (some EFs work well with one but not the other), but the gem is the middle...

Polite alternative to Dunlop Superbright Stainless Steel set

You could also try the regular, non super bright version. I like those a lot. Otherwise, I think you're describing nickel roundwound strings. Dunlop, Ernie Ball and Daddario are all cheap enough.

Mild envelope filter to mimic fretless bass

Yes. I wouldn't say I was great on fretless, but I enjoy playing it. I'm kinda looking for a fretless sound that not only works with fretted, but it adjustable. The MXR Synth is surprising in this manner. But it's a synth, not bass.

Mild envelope filter to mimic fretless bass

The EFs that I've used included the MXR, Aguilar, Mooer, Zoom x several, Boss I think, EHX x several, others that I don't recall. But I just watched a video of the EBS, and it looks cool. Subtle. I ordered one and hopefully it will BE the one!

Mild envelope filter to mimic fretless bass

Mild envelope filter to mimic fretless bass

I have fretless and play it mostly at my studio. My bands can't use them but occasionally, and switching basses isn't in the cards. Also, developing a fretless sound via pedals is a project. I've got decent sounds in the C4 and the MXR Synth Bass. The Zoom is promising. I haven't cracked the...

Mild envelope filter to mimic fretless bass

The Zoom Defret comes close but not exactly what I'm after. But it's on the right track. I agree chorus lifts a lot of the weight. It seems to me that EF pedal makers are focused on the so-called funk sound that they design a lot of filter control like adsr out of the pedal. Even the source...

Mild envelope filter to mimic fretless bass

I have 2 synths supposedly able to adjust the adsr, the C4 and the Future Impact. The C4's envelopes are kinda baked in but some controllability, and FI is so complex it's like going through the 9 layers of hell. I was hoping to get something more basic.

Mild envelope filter to mimic fretless bass

I think the title says it. All of the filters I've tried, and I've got a lot of them, deliver a sound most appropriate for 70s funk. That's not what I'm after. I want something I can dial down to just a hint. The mwah. The C4 and mxr synths come close, even the fretless module in the zoom, but I...

How to position stage amp with FRFR bass monitor in small venue

I've been in similar situations with similar equipment as you. What I did that worked the best: 1. Don't even think of combining the systems, monitor and bass. Keep them separate. No bass in the monitor. The K10 doesn't produce a lot of low end, and IME bass coming from the same place as the...
