bridge wing pickup installation

Wondering of those of you who are using Vic's pickups, Models B or C specifically, on which side are you mounting the wing pickup? On my other bass I mounted it on the treble side based on a couple things I read about it maybe would cut down on too much low end boom, and it did sound good...

I just got a Vic's pickup that is a little thicker than I anticipated. I have to file the bridge a bit.... Would it be better to file down and not up? Filing up would be easier because there's less mass, but looks like it would compromise the integrity of the material. Also, it should be a...
