I am doing a deep dive on different Flat-wound P Bass tones.
I would love to hear some of your favorite recordings of a P bass with flats. Bonus points if you can share the gear/technique to achieve the sound.
To get things started here is a more obscure one. It’s definitely not a Jamerson or...
I really like this brand. Their groundwounds are very nice and the coated rounds are flexy and durable. These amalgam strings are for electric bass. They also make these for acoustic guitar. I kind of get it for acoustic because maybe they have more output for a magnetic soundhole pickup. But...
I've tried the Pyramids on a few different P-bass builds and they always drove me a little nuts. Had to really fight to get any snap or sizzle when I wanted it.
I think the J bass might be the ticket. Something about those single coils - with a bridge pickup on demand.
But also: loads of thump...
For me it would have to be the Ernie Ball Cobalt Flatwound Strings. Fresh out of the box, they feel like they have something sticky on them, and my fingers move much slower. They sound fine, though.

Hey, can anyone help me identify these strings? They are the smoothest, silkiest, best sounding flatwounds I have ever played and I can’t figure out what they are. All the forums I’ve checked indicate that they are DR Legends, but they are not. I’ve got a set of DR Legends on another bass and...
I've been playing flats for a year or so but I haven't been able to get the sound I want out of the ones I've used. I've tried Chromes and DR Legends and I dislike them both for different reasons. Chromes are way to bright, I had the same set on for about 8 months and they were still to bright...
Hi everyone!
Hope y’all doing great!
I’m a bit confused right now. I’ve been practicing bass for around 5 months now. I got myself a Squier PJ and a LaneyRB2, 30W.
I really dig the bass tone of R&B, but more than that, I really love the bass tone of Silk Sonic, sometimes the tone of the style...
