Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understand, when two pickups are in parallel and in the middle notch at 50/50, there is comb filtering which results in a mid-scooped effect. Sounds amazing when playing solo but doesn't really cut through in a mix. Somewhere along the line, I remember...
