Here's what Steven from Kaybass.com says:
"I can confirm that Kay C-1 (Concert series) #9146 was built in Chicago in 19XX, and appears to be in standard configuration excepting the tailpiece badge. I have no history on this instrument.

Available from the very beginning of Kay bass and cello production in 1937 through the company's liquidation in '69, the standard 3/4-scale C-1 was Kay's most popular model overall, with peak production '49-'54. The model is characterized by its gamba corners, lacquer finish pattern, standard edge pinstriping, black Kluson tuning sets and rosewood fingerboard and appointments. I estimate total C-1 production in the 13,000-14,000 range.

In this period the C-1 would have had no tailpiece badge or logo. This instrument has no ID label because it was built for sale under a different brand. "

Thanks
