Selling a 1942 Kay C-1 double bass. 3/4 body with 42.5" scale length. Aubert adjustable bridge. Rosewood fingerboard which gives a very warm tone and feels great under your fingers. Currently strong with Obligato strings.
The neck is very comfortable - relatively narrow with lower action. The neck was repaired at some point years before I bought it (see photo of heel) but it is rock solid and pros who have worked on this bass have shown no concern over it. The fine line you can see in the photo is hair-thin has not moved in all the time I've owned the bass, meaning the repair was not cosmetically perfect but it's very strong.
I have had this bass for over 10 years and it has been a great friend in recordings, jams, at shows (sounds great with a condenser mic on it), etc. The finish shows some wear but all in all it's looking pretty good for an instrument made during WWII. I am only the fourth person to own it during its 77 years of life! Great volume, nice growl, resonance and sustain. Warm tone but can cut through the mix.
I love this bass but recently bought something else so it's time for this to find a new home. Includes good soft bag with lots of handles and pockets, the original endpin, and an extra long endpin I got from Fretwell a few years ago but I'm a tall guy. Located in Toronto (my price is in Canadian $). Not sure I'm able to ship this but could meet up within reason if you're a determined buyer. Happy to answer any questions. Thanks for looking!
