This rare 1967 Kay S-1 is a whole lot of awesome and always gets looks of envy from bass players when I take it out. It has that classic, room-filling Kay low-end, is currently strung up with Zyex Mediums, and it sounds surprisingly detailed under the bow.

This was Kay's top of the line bass at the time, and came standard with real inlayed purfling (also around F-Holes) and an ebony fingerboard and tailpiece.

41 3/4" scale, classic slender Kay Neck, no neck break!!, top/back have never even been off of the bass. Soundpost, bass bar, everything is as it should be. Only issues are that there is some (stable) top deflection on the upper treble F-Hole. No delamination, no soundpost bulge, certain edges have flaked off the top layer but the purfling has stopped it from getting into the top/back. C bevel remains on the fingerboard. Some amateur edge replacement is present.

There's a reason this has decent play wear, it's a KILLER bass--super easy to overpower other instruments!
