Up for grabs is my KILLER 1977 4001 in rate Autumnglo (with the even more rare, black TRC and pickguard options almost never found with this finish)! She was made in August of 1977 according to the serial number (see the jack-plate pic).
The bass plays and sounds AMAZING! And I mean AMAZING!!!!! Very low, buzz-free action and the bass has a very stable neck The neck doesn't budge, even with season changes. No need for truss rod adjustments...
Speaking of the truss rods, this truss-rods has been refurbished and overhauled by the famous luthier, Kevin Brubaker. Kevin made this bass right-as-rain.
As you can see, she's in amazing overall condition for a 40+ year-old instrument. I'm going to list out specifics and fully disclose everything that I'm aware of, but they are minor items and pretty much expected for an instrument of this vintage.
1: As noted above, the truss rods were overhauled by Kevin Brubaker (arguably one of the best luthiers in the country and/or world). There was also some separation where the fretboard meets the neck up by the headstock (which is common on a vintage 4001). Kevin clamped and epoxyed it and he said that the epoxy is actually stronger than the wood and will never separate again. But if you look closely, you can see where it was once separated, but structurally, it's sound.
2: I replaced the vintage, OEM Kluson, reverse-wind tuners with standard-wind Black Hipshots. I still have the Klusons and the gaskets for them should you want to mount them. Note that also, a former owner decided to mount them upside-down at some point to make them non-reverse. Hence the extra holes on the back of the headstock. There are some holes under the tuners, which means there may have been Grover Wavys on there at some point too (the holes look spaced for them to my eye).
3: Changed the stock bridge with a black hipshot bridge. The original will be included in the purchase.
4: I am not certain, but I think that the main output jack has been replaced. I only say this because the threads on it are just a little longer than the ones on the Ric-O-Sound jack. For all I know, it came from the factory this way. Either way, it works without issue.
5: I believe the case to be original, but am not 100% sure. The handle broke off, but ill be included in case you care to repair it (which is totally doable).
6: Some minor to moderate dings, chips, buckle-rash here and there (as expected for a 40+ year-old bass), but overall in wonderful condition.
Like I said above, the bass is AMAZING! But it is hanging on my wall and needs to be played!
