For sale: 1981 Ibanez Roadster Bass in excellent condition. If you are a fan of Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, you will recognize this bass as being identical to the one Steve plays in the video clip for Run To The Hills. Steve used the Roadster for the recording of Run To The Hills as well, as he indicated it sounded cleaner than his Fender Precision Bass in an interview from that era. The Ibanez Roadster can also be seen in the video clip for The Trooper.

Overall condition is excellent, although there are a few minor nicks in the lower edges of the body (the instrument has been taken care of, but it is 33 years old). The black finish is still glossy and completely intact. No buckle rash on the back. The pickups were manufactured by Dimarzio and are original to the instrument. Electronics are passive. The neck pickup is ceramic and powerful. The bridge pickup will nail the Jaco Pastorius tone if soloed. The neck is straight and shows virtually no wear. Frets were recently milled by the Texas Guitar Workshop and the nut was recently replaced by Randy Brown of Lone Star Guitar Repair.

The original hardcase was dilapidated and recently replaced with a Pro-Tech softshell case, which provides excellent protection and happens to fit the Roadster perfectly.

Other than the professionally replaced nut and case, this Roadster is 100% original and rare. The strings are DR Hi-Beam stainless steel, standard gauge.

Asking $600 plus shipping and insurance, possibly negotiable. Not interested in trades. Prefer local sale in the DFW area but will ship within the continental US and Canada. Please reply to this ad.

I can't seem to find information about the electronics. What do the knobs/switch do in the case that it's passive? Can you take a picture of the cavity, please?

Volume and tone for each pickup, and a three-way toggle switch. The electronics (except for the pickups) are similar to those of a Les Paul. The pickups are ceramic and loud (yet totally passive).
