IMO, one of the best Jazz basses ever made. The G&L MFD J-type pickups are big, clear and hot: a lot of output, with broad even response. Controls are volume and tone, with a Stratocaster-esque pickup selector for neck only/both/bridge only. Slab-bodied: no forearm or tummy contours.

I bought this body for $350 with no neck, and put a 1997 G&L L-2000 neck on it. 1997 is part of the ''three bolt micro-tilt" family.
The neck is 1 3/4" nut width, and has a beautifully figured rosewood board. Wide, but shallow, it plays out beautifully.
I scored the neck used on ebay for $350, and paid an additional $100 for a set of Schaller tuners. Schaller was the stock supplier for G&L.

First-generation '83 SB-2 body with '97 USA neck makes a unique "SB-2000." Perhaps the world's only.

Color is fiesta red (nitro). Finish is in good shape, except at a certain angle a sticker outline is visible on the front by the upper horn. There are a few small body chips near the neck pocket.

Let’s not forget the sweet mother-of-pearl fretboard dots.

Strung with new GHS Boomers (45-100). Weight is approx. 9.5 lbs. Ships in a budget Levy’s gigbag. $650.

free bump. i got a fretless Lynx from TB last year, basically the exact bass as this in tobacco burst. would love to have a fretted one too, but no funds. g/l on the sale. it's a nice looking bass.

Thanks Krusty! I'm leaning towards keeping this. A new set of flatwounds would make it sparkle. But we'll see.

Put on new strings, it sounds even better now, but I still need to thin the herd.

That is one fine looking bass. I have an 84 sb-1 in sunburst and its one of the best basses I've ever played. I'm looking to sell my drumset, and if this is still around when I do, I might have to pull the trigger on this one.
