This is the real deal... a 1994 Modulus TBX 5 in excellent condition.
The pickups are Bartolini MBDE triple coil humbuckers, each of which has a three way switch to select whether the coils for each pickup in series, parallel or single coil mode. The preamp is the standard (for that era) Bartolini NTMB. The tone: if you've ever heard a Modulus TBX you know what this bass sounds like. If you haven't... suffice it to say that it roars with a deep thick low end and B string that is best heard (and felt) live and loud.
I am not the original owner of this bass, so I can't say for certain that the electronics are original. I have no reason to suspect that they aren't, though.
The quilted maple top is beautiful! The color is impossible for me to accurately photograph. The bass is actually a dark teal green (velvet green?), a color I haven't seen on a Modulus before but which is listed in the 1994 catalog as available on the TBX. It is NOT blue as it appears in these photos. After half an hour of fooling with the white balance on my camera I gave up. Trust me: it's not blue.
The bass plays extremely well. There is just a touch of relief, no fret wear to speak of and the action is what I would call low.
String spacing 17 mm at the bridge. Neck is 1.8" at the nut, 2.75" at the 24th fret and 35" scale. As was standard on the Modulus basses of this era, there is no truss rod.
Weight is 9.8 lbs.
The bass is in excellent condition for a 25 year-old instrument. There are no significant dings, dents or scratches on the front of the bass, just a few light swirl marks. On the back, there is some light buckle rash and a scratch on the control cover. These scratches are nearly impossible to feel, but they are there. You can see them in this photo.
There is also a chip on the rear headstock, just above the "A" tuner, that is maybe the size of half a pencil eraser. You can see it in this photo, which also comes closest to the real color of the bass:
The bass will ship in a non-original semi-hard case.
Price is $4,499 including shipping to CONUS. No trades of any kind, thanks.
International sales are cool with me, but you must agree to pay all additional shipping/import fees or duty/VAT, etc. costs. Please don't ask me to fill out paperwork that understates the value of the bass in any way - I won't do that. If you pay by PayPal I will only ship to the address that you have registered with PayPal.
Please feel free to ask me any questions that you might have..and thanks for looking!
