For your buying consideration...this beautiful Bottom Wave MB-5. It is similar to the 60's deluxe model, with an alder body, rosewood fretboard, maple neck, block inlays, fretboard bindings, and Aero fjb5 type 1 pickups. The pickups were recently made specifically to fit this bass. There is also a Mike Pope preamp installed in the bass with 4-bands of EQ, volume, tone, blend and an active/passive switch. Between the build of the bass, the pickups, and the preamp, this bass has a lot of tone and versatility. It can be dialed down for a smooth, in-the-mix sound, and also turned up if you're into lead bass, slapping, aggressive tones, etc. For those who do not know, Bottom Wave is essentially the same company that built the Fodera NYC series and the F Clef basses. They are a top notch, high-end boutique bass maker in Japan. This bass is not the most current model that they are currently producing and I am not sure how old it is. But the logo on the head is different than the current ones. It has a gloss finish on the body, and used to have a gloss finish on the back of the neck. I had the back of the neck professionally sanded down so that it is smoother to play. There are 2 minor defects: There is a hairline crack on just below the B-string tuner (pictured). I has it assessed by a luthier, who said it is not worth repairing, as he didn't think it would ever expand. He said if it ever does expand, it would be a very simple fix with wood glue. Also the B string tuner is slightly bent (pictured), this has no effect on its functionality however, and I imagine can be bent back straight pretty easily. I really love this bass, but I have another two basses that get played more and I can't afford to have it sitting around.
