Details

A great deal on a fully carved post-WWII German upright flatback bass! In another life, this was a middle school band bass. This bass has definitely been used well, as it has checking all over, carved name of the school it was used in near the endpin, and some great mojo. Has had a heel repair and numerous crack repairs over its lifetime. In strong working and sounding shape, with a light flame to the maple on the neck. While it’s label is too torn to read, it is very similar to Juzek basses of the same era.

This bass features a mature and present arco voice that rivals basses above its price point, especially in the lower register (around C2). Even with the relatively bright Spirocore Weich gauge strings on this bass, it’s easy to get a creamy, dark arco tone. Overall very even and easy to draw tone from.

Pizzicato is smooth, even, and once again, creamy. The neck shape is very comfortable and easy to navigate. It is a D neck. The next owner may consider a new bridge and soundpost. Heel repair is via metal bolt and ebony cap in the fingerboard. An excellent recording bass, and more than sturdy enough to take on the road.
