Fretless

Lovely [1999?] semi-hollow fretless Carvin:
  • Flamed maple top
  • Mahogany body and neck
  • Neck-through, string-through
  • B-Band transducer and pre-amp
  • Ebony fingerboard and saddle
  • Gold hardware
  • G&G Vintage tweed hard case
Plays and sounds great! The neck has been de-glossed for speed. Super light-weight; I read somewhere 6.5 pounds, but have no accurate way to check this. Has one ding on the lower horn; otherwise in excellent condition.

If this was a 4, I think I'd relearn how terrible I am at fretless!

It is! (plays sweet, too!)

No question! I've got one just like it and love it! They are really not like other basses at all. Super light. Great hollowbody tone but without feedback problems. Can do a great upright imitation with foam under strings at bridge. Bad news is that I can't justify that much money just to change up from lined fretless to unlined fretless even though I'd love to. Would love to eventually have a fretted-fretless pair of these though...

I had a fretted ac50,and still have an ac40 f. These are great sounding, light basses, and they do balance well. The 5 string has an asymetrical neck,(like a Tobias) that feels fantastic. Best of luck with the sale!

Sound clips? Does it sound great without an amp ? I just want to know how well I can hear it. I don't have an amp.

No, it doesn't sound without an amp. This is not an acoustic instrument. However, it won't feed back even at loud (30 pc. big band) stage volume. If you want something to play without amplification, this is not for you.
Thank you for your interest.

Clearly thank you. I want a fair quality instrument that is both acoustic and electric. At least while I am searching for an amplifier.
