Cataldo JAE Fender-bird – 4 string – Black – Fretted
It is with sadness that I must part with my Cataldo JAE Fender-bird. It's around 2 years old – Cataldo #51. I'm the original owner – I commissioned it specifically for a classic rock project that broke up before the bass was finished, so it has never been gigged. It's a great sounding, great playing bass that needs an owner who will utilize it more than I do. Yes, Cataldo basses are parts basses, but what you are getting is an instrument that is well executed (more than the sum of its parts).
It's black with a white pickguard. It has a one-piece maple neck (nut width = 1 5/8 inches). I ordered it with Hipshot tuners, Dunlop straplocks, and the overwound Thunderbucker pickups. It sounds really loud and huge – most people think it's active, but it is passive and has V/V/T controls. Comes with hardshell case. Other than the upgraded pickups and tuners, I believe that the rest of this bass is pretty much a "stock" Cataldo.
It's around 10 pounds, but due to the bolt-on neck and lightweight tuners, it does not neck dive. It seems to want to be horizontal – basically at 9 o'clock, and will remain stable between 10 o'clock and 8 o'clock – if higher than 10 or lower than 8 it will want to be back to 9 o'clock.
