For sale, a bass I've owned since I bought it from John Neves at Berklee in the late 1970s. It has a neck repair that I had done in the late 1980s which has been stable since then. From an appraisal done at that time:
The instrument has a top of 2 pieces of wide grain spruce with gamba corners. The flat back is made of 2 pieces of clear maple. The ribs match the back. The neck is made from sycamore. Ebony fingerboard. Original tuning gears made of brass with boxwood pegs. The bass has a self bar and a club neck.
The bass was made in the Tyrol circa 1880. Maker is an unknown Tyrolean.
Estimated value (at the time of the appraisal 25 years ago) $6000.
