For sale is my Conklin Groove Tools GTRP-4 Rocco Prestia model bass.

Not much info out there on these basses though it is common consensus that there are about 24 of them that were built. I've been able to own two of them and they were exactly the same in a good way. I am selling this bass to buy a more expensive bass and that is the only reason I'm selling it.

I bought this one last year from a guy who claims he was Tower of Power's production manager at the time that Rocco did the deal with Conklin. He claims he got this bass directly from Rocco. There is an extra end pin hole in the bass and having seen Rocco play these basses a number of times I know that would be the only proof to substantiate the story as I know he did that to his Conklin's. But the guy never could prove it to me. I bought it anyway.

When seller shipped it to me he asked a 3rd party to take it to the UPS store and have it packed for shipment and when I received it the packing job was total crap. As a result something crushed the top of the box and cracked one of the knobs through the control cavity. It was not broken only a partial crack, I've highlighted it below in the pics. I won't bore you with the crap that I had to go through with the seller to get it repaired and the UPS claim process that went with it. But I did get it totally refinished by Pat Wilkins and if I did not tell you it was repaired you would not know. I sent the bass to Pat and he dissembled it, refinished it, reassembled it and did the setup it has today.

The bass has a swamp ash body with maple top with that better than new Pat Wilkins cherry burst finish and birdseye maple pickguard.

The neck is 21 frets and made with quartersawn hardrock maple neck and it has a birdseye maple fingerboard. It also has the signature Conklin sidewider style mother of pearl fret markers and the RP inlay at the 12th fret. I added some stick on fret markers as I think a the 7th fret marker was tough for my aging eyes to see. They peel right off if the new owner does not like them. The nut is about 1 5/8" It's a super comfortable neck and finished like a bass costing much more.

The pickups and preamp are Bartolini Reversed "P" and angled "J" active pickups with a Rocco signature Bartolini preamp.

It is a very comfortable bass to play with great tonal capabilities.

The only trade I am interested is a 1969 Fender Precision bass. I will obviously add cash to make up the difference.

Asking $1300 shipped CONUS. The bass will be well packed and shipped in a serviceable gig bag. PayPal and VENMO are ok but I'm also happy to wait for a certified funds. Optionally this bass may be inspected and/or purchased in person at my Folsom business park office 20 minutes east of downtown Sacramento. Any local cash buyer will get an automatic $100 discount. Yes, shipping has gotten that expensive. >>I will ship international for actual shipping costs, please PM me to discuss.

Now for the best part!

Just wanted to put it in the tomes of the internet that I, LowEndLobster, am the current caretaker of this fine instrument. I love it.

Hi there guys, I just wanted to clear the mystery created about this bass by the original seller claiming to be the TOP production manager. At the time he was trying to sell it in 2019, I also approached him and tried to gather as much information about him as possible. Once I did, I double checked the story/name with Rocco and he had no recollection ever knowing the guy, nor giving anyone this bass. I am really sorry to be the one to bring you the bad news.
