In my accelerating quest to satisfy my DAS, and procure an AB3x or Z3x, I am doing the unthinkable and putting up my beloved Pre-fire Voodoo Prima.
This bass is one of Sheldon's early top of the line basses. It has a gorgeous mahogany core, with a quilted maple top and back. It has a 7 piece laminated neck, that is so nice and fast, a beautiful pau ferro board with lots of dark stripes in the grain, the headstock has an ebony laminate and is equipped with sperzel locking tuners! And of course, she sports the rare and sexy cello cut!
The amazing thing about this bass being over 20 years old is its condition. You have to look very closely to find any wear. There are only a few very fine scratches and dimples in this bass, and you have to do a very close inspection to find them.
The action is low and fast with no buzzing. The bass stays in tune for days without need for even a slight tweak most of the time. Truss rod works as it should. Frets have plenty of life in them.
It has the original Bartolini pups wound to Sheldon's spec. I replaced the original Bart preamp with a newer equivalent. The new one is the same but has an internal gain pot to adjust output gain.
The knob controls are Volume, Blend, stacked Bass/Treble.
I'm not sure of the weight, but I would be shocked if it were much over 9 pounds, and she balances very nicely. Bathroom scale update: 9 pounds on the nose!
