how do they compare with Spiro core solos?

I believe that they have a synthetic core, so they are warmer and a bit beefier, but someone else may want to chime in on this.

I've played both. I like the Dominants better because they are exactly warmer and fuller (beefier might be Spiro Starks!). I don't know about the core, but the website says: Thomastik Dominant Double Bass Strings are a widely-used synthetic double bass string with a highly flexible, multi-strand nylon core.

If anything, even lower tension than spiro solos. More warm and less growly. Nice with bow and pizz. Great hybrid string if you like low tension.

  6. I'm not 100% sure, but I have always though Dominants have a Perlon (synthetic) core, for what that's worth...

  8. Sorry Louis (and Earl!). If I'd read your initial post more carefully, I wouldn't have needed to chime in. Apologies for the derail.

I would never have said nylon myself - so no worries.
