Fender Precision Bass - Fullerton Built '62 Reissue Body with Jazz Neck

Fender '62 Reissue Precision (Serial #V013712)
Fiesta red over black finish (factory respray)
Vintage Rosewood Fender Genuine Replacement Jazz Bass neck (installed Nov 2001)
Pickguardian 4 ply nitrocellulose tortoise guard
Period correct spaghetti headstock logo
Blond G&G case (good/very good condition, keys, functional latches)
Original pickups, wiring, pots, case candy (original strap, manual, etc.)
2nd owner, spent most of its life in the case. Some wear spots, but overall very clean.
Low action, very resonant and sweet sounding bass.

Agreed. Side by side, it makes the Pino look pink with a gray overtone. The color of this one really jumps out at you...I smile every time I open the case.

I'm on the road for the weekend- I'll have to confirm on Monday. Pretty confident that it is indeed a Fullerton body (finish, pickup, blue marking @ the neck heel, etc).

Very nice looking bass! Love the color. Red over black "factory respray"? That's unfamiliar to me. Why would the factory change the color? Not doubting at all, just curious as I haven't heard of that before. Also, the notice on the back of the headstock that says "Genuine Fender Replacement"? Also unfamiliar to me. Is the bass originally as built? Or has it been assembled from parts?

I had a Post Fullerton jazz RI in fiesta red, and it was painted over some sort of blue (sonic blue?). No idea why, I discover it in the neck cavity when I pulled the neck off.

I'm mostly into modern 5's and am no Fender purist, but there is a lot of content on the web regarding the factory resprays. Folks speculate that it's Fender's attempt to meet demand for more popular colors, or an easy way to cover-up of 2nd quality original finishes, before they leave the factory. Fender's cost cutting measures that are now a trademark which collectors love and strive to find.

The base finish on this bass is either black or sunburst. The screws at the neck heel and ding on the finish reveal the solid black, but the paint chips at the bridge cover screws reveal the dark red, right where it would transition in a sunburst finish. The bass is in too good of condition (spent most of its life in the case) and I can't definitively tell without additional paint being removed. If you're especially lucky, the base layer will be the rarest fiesta red over 2 or 3 tone sunburst, like these which seem to command a huge price because of the finish.

Re: neck- It's an intact Fullerton '62 Reissue body (original '62 Reissue pickup, wiring, electronics, bridge, etc.), replaced tortoise pick guard and a Fender Genuine Replacement Parts Vintage Jazz Neck. These necks were a limited run in the late 1990's/early 2000's, made in USA and sold for $499. Previous owner had the neck professionally installed, nut cut, etc. for +$159 in 2001 (receipt included).
